A tiny billet doux.
Each day I wonder
How little you loved me?
An impossiblity of zeros
Kiss me hard in the dark
Gone to sleep
Unfinished still life– Disappearing Self 2

The eggshell floats on the water, leaves no trace
But a dented meniscus, an inbreath
She knows how to stop
But she cannot; for the limbic worm
Tells her that rushing stream’s utterance
Is powerful enough to crush her skull
The inner space, a paralysed eye
Innocent in its pale shackles.

We made many guns and arms and warplanes. The instruments of war.
We armed the world to its teeth and made billions.
Nation fought nation bringing horror and famine and waves of lost children
We turned the refugees aside as they ‘don’t belong here’.
A child drowning in an ocean didn’t matter once we said
‘we need to look after our own.’
We created this situation.
We voted for it
Until we are all refugees
Our voices lost in a rising sea.
