Cool Water

The whole moon has been swallowed by a lake
Trees swim like bobbins round an intricate mirror
Sallow leaves skitter and finally drown
There is a man painting a shape on green paper

The whole sun has been spat out by the river
Which has looped across the flatness in a spurting prism
Checkerboard birds leap about amongst the Jacob sheep
A woman is embroidering a  blue scarf

The stars go pricking and spiking all over the black world
There is love and a small song that sends the sheep to sleep
Home is lit by a red little fire, I live in a house I invented
When all I have is a picture I am painting.
